Bebe sells real fur

Great news!

Bebe has announced that they will be dropping fur from their clothing line after the winter season! Thank you to everybody who participated in our protests and boycott! Last Christmas season, Liberation BC activists spent 4-7 days a week outside the Bebe store on Robson Street showing countless hours of fur farm footage and distributing close to 10,000 leaflets. The highlight of our campaign included a window takeover that shut down the store for an entire day on a busy Sunday. See protest photos on the right.

Bebe is a women's clothing chain

that sells cheap rabbit fur from China. The fur products on Bebe's store shelves range from purses to key chain accessories to collar accents, none of which are necessary for keeping warm. Real fur from China can be produced more cheaply than fake fur, which is why Bebe can sell real fur at an affordable price. Rabbits on fur farms are raised in very cold temperatures in barren wire cages. The wire that these poor bunnies stand on often cut through their feet. At slaughter, the bunnies have their necks broken, skulls beaten and heads cut off. What's more, there is a thriving cat and dog fur industry in China, much of which is mislabeled as "rabbit fur" before being exported to Western countries. Who knows what Bebe is really selling?

On Chinese fur farms animals are often skinned alive...

but wait before you start blaming China. The Chinese kill animals for fur to satisfy the North American and European demand for this horrific product. Most of the fur produced in China is exported to Western markets--in fact, China produces 80% of all the world's fur. And no, there are no laws in China or North America protecting animals on fur farms from sadistic abuse.

Please boycott BEBE

and all other stores that support the fur industry until they stop.

Campaigns like this have been successful in convincing J. Crew, Ralph Lauren, Ann Taylor, Roots, and Jacob to stop selling fur. We can make a difference!
